Furugaan Mosque vandalised

Mushafs (copies of the Quran) and sections of the Furgan Mosque in Malé were vandalised early this morning, with reports of significant damage to various parts of the mosque.

Sheikh Adam Nishan Ali Adam shared details in a Facebook post, stating that the Mushafs stored at the mosque were scattered, and electrical boards and adaptors were destroyed. Additionally, parts of the wudhu (ablution) section were damaged, with debris thrown around the mosque premises.

According to Sheikh Nishan, the act was committed by a young individual who has previously caused similar disturbances, including defiling Mushafs. He noted that the individual, who was reportedly sleeping in the mosque during prayer hours, appears to be struggling with mental instability.

Sheikh Nishan expressed frustration over the lack of action, questioning the purpose of the Male’ City Council’s surveillance cameras at the mosque and the police's inaction despite repeated reports about the individual.

The police have confirmed receiving a report of the incident and stated that an investigation is currently underway.
