Transport Ministry begins issuing Seafarers Identity Document

Transport Ministry has announced that the mandatory Seafarers Identity Document (SID) can now be obtained from the Ministry.

The SID was launched on Monday by Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen at a ceremony held to mark the International Seamen's Day.

In a post on X, Transport Ministry said that the Ministry has begun the process of issuing SID to local seamen.

SID is a mandatory document for seafarers on cargo ships in accordance with the 2003 amendment to the International Labour Organisation's 'The Seafarer's Identity Documents Convention'.
