Democrats open party primary applications

The Democrats have opened application for parliamentary primaries for parliament elections.

The Democrats made an announcement on Thursday that candidates who have singed up for the Party by 4 February will be eligible to contest in the primary.

The announcement said that the applicant must be a member of the party and must meet all the conditions laid down in Article 73 of the Constitution and Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 2015, which stipulates that a candidate should be eligible for parliamentary elections.

As per the announcement, the primary will be held on February 17 and the party will give a party ticket to a single MP without a primary in constituencies where only one member is contesting the primary.

Democrats said only those registered with the party were eligible to vote in the primary.
