Five opposition PPP/PNC leaders arrested while sitting in Republic Square have been summoned to appear before police at various times today.
The members were arrested while at the Republic Square on Thursday evening and released on the same day. They were released on condition that they appear later for the investigation.
PPM senior spokesperson Heena Waleed told One today that they have been summoned to appear before police at various times.
The members have been summoned to police as follows:
- Mahibadhoo ConstituencyMPt Ahmed Thorig: 1000hrs
- PNC Deputy, Maduvvari Constituency MP Adam Shareef: 1100hrs
- PNC Deputy, Maavoshu Constituency MP Mohammed Saeed: 1200hrs
- PPP Deputy, Naifaru Constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam: 1300hrs
- Hulhumale' Constituency Councilor Ibrahim Shujau: 1600hrs
The opposition leadership were protesting to call for a fair trial for the main opposition leader and PPM presidential candidate, President Abdullah Yameen, who is currently serving a jail sentence.
