Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has started publicising names of tourist resorts that are behind on land rent.
MIRA started publicising the resort names at the Taxpayer Service Centre building under a 'Name and Shame' campaign in a first. The televised screen outside the building with the list is in public view outside the building. Prior to this, MIRA publicised the defaulters' names on the company website, the gazette and media.
The list publicised today include 16 parties comprising of 12 tourist resorts and 4 islands leased for agricultural development.

MIRA publicised the defaulters list as per the policy gazetted by the Authority last month.
MIRA's 2020 Audit Report shows that the government is owed approximately MVR 17 billion in resort land rent and fines. This amounts up to 78% of funds receivable to the state.
