Govt designates land for waqf building dedicated to Quranic education in Male'

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that land has been designated for a waqf building dedicated to Quranic education in Male' City.

He made this revelation during his address at the Huffaz Graduation Ceremony, held on Wednesday evening at the Islamic Centre.

In his speech, the President highlighted the Administration’s ongoing initiatives to promote the teaching of the Holy Quran. In this regard, he announced that the Government is working towards the construction of a waqf building dedicated to Quranic education, a key initiative that will complement other similar efforts.

He further stated that the land for the building has already been designated, and that letters to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs regarding the matter will be dispatched once Government offices reopen after the holidays.

The President said that when the Waqf building dedicated to the Holy Quran is constructed, it will become a very significant investment, important both intellectually and in every sense. He added that its full results will be realized by the people in the coming years.

The President first announced the decision to build two new Waqf buildings in Male' during the ceremony to announce the results of the 36th National Quran Recitation Competition last July. He stated that land has been allocated for the Waqf building to be named Darul Arqam, and work is ongoing to build a new Waqf building named Darus Salam.

The President has said that currently, there is only one Waqf building in Male' named Darul Iman, which generates six million rufiyaa annually. He added that this government's vision is to find additional ways to increase financial self-sufficiency for the expenses needed to advance religious affairs.
